Despite its name, it is not part of the pepper or pepper family. It is simply the dried berry of the mastic tree. It gives dishes a flavor similar to that of juniper and aniseed. It has a sharp taste, but without the heat of real pepper.
Crush them gently between your fingers to release their vegetable notes and pulverize your preparations just before serving them. Smooth texture slightly bitter and with notes of wood. Perfect for marinated salmon, poached fish, white asparagus and goat cheese.
